History
Gertrude was born the youngest child and the only girl into a very respected pureblood family. The Prewetts a very influential family in Great Britain, outdone only by last names such as Black ot Malfoy. Little Gerty grew up surrounded by luxury and wealth, receiving only the finest. It didn't mattered much to her anyway, as she was blissfully happy just playing with her brothers or sitting in her father's lap. When she turned five, her mother thought it was time for Gerty to receive the necessary education to turn into an exemplary pureblooded woman. She was taught by a governess how to carry herself properly, and by age nine Gerty spoke French fluently, was a rather virtuous player of the harp and had read half of the books available in the Prewet's library.
It was also around that time that little Gerty started spending more time with her grandparents, much to her father's dismay. Being the only grandaughter, she was very much doted upon by her grandfather, who took it as his task to educate little Gerty in matters regarding blood purity. She learned that muggles and muggleborns shouldn't be allowed to enter the magical world, because most of them were vile, and it was better for little Gerty to stay away from them.
By the time Gerty turned eleven, a fine owl flew through the window carrying her Hogwarts letter. Her parents had thought for a long time to send her to study abroad to Beauxbatons, but France was a politically unstable country in the Muggle world, and Cyrus would not risk his precious daughter to go into a country with a frail political stability. After all, Gerty's mother was a french pureblooded aristocrat that was forced to flee to England because of the muggle revolution.
That year she boarded the Hogwarts Express along with her two older brothers. Gerty was excited to attend the same school with them, as she had missed them terribly during the last years. She wasn't surprised to find some of her pureblooded friends attending school with her, and she stood alongside with them waiting for the Sorting. Gerty was nervous, but not overly so. After all, this world was familiar to her. She hoped to get sorted into Ravenclaw alongside her eldest brother Etienne, whom Gerty practically worshipped. After a while, her name was called and she sat on the stool. The Sorting Hat stayed briefly in her head, hesitant to place her either in Ravenclaw or Slytherin. After a minute, it shouted 'Gryffindor'.
This caused a conmotion back at home, as Gryffindor was often considered a house more suitable for Prewett men rather than women. It was expected for her to be sorted into Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or even Slytherin (her grandfather hoped this). This also unsettled Gerty, who wasn't used to being a dissapointment to her family (it was a small dissapointment, to be more fair. They weren't going to disown her or something like that), and she wanted to be in the same House ad her eldest brother. But her second oldest brother, Arnaud, was in Gryffindor as well and this made it easier for Gerty to endure. She kept in touch with most of her childhood friends, despite that they were mostly placed in Slytherin and a few Ravenclaws. She also befriended the pureblood kids in Gryffindor, making sure to steer clear of the muggleborns and halfbloods (as her grandfather had advised her) She was a witty young girl and generally got good grades, making it among the top of her class. This never really got to her head, and she was willing to lend a hand to everyone that may need it. The one thing that bothered her was when some of the boys said that women were inferior. This striked a sensitive streak in Gerty, who often showed them otherwise. She also disliked the bullying many older students seemed fond of and always was the one to stand in the way and defend those younger and meeker than her.
This Seventh Year has proved to be full of changes. Her father was promoted to Head of the Magical Law Enforcement Department, and she has heard less of him due to the muggleborn assasin that is on the loose. This has made Gerty to start seeking information elsewhere, be it in the Daily Prophet she suscribed to, books and some teachers. As her final Year at Hogwarts, it is expected that she'll marry to a renown pureblood wizard and carry off fine children. With her father being so caught up in the Magical Law Enforcement affairs, her grandfather took it as his duty to find a respectable man for Gerty. Through some connections to Nikolas Vogel, her grandfather finally set up Gerty's bethrotement to Lucius Gray, a man whom she's hatdly seen before.
Gertrude has taken this whole affair in a very proper way, almost with a hint of resignation. She always dreamed of falling in love practically at first sight with the man she was to marry, but even though Lucius is a very respectable man in puritan circles and all in all a seemingly perfect match, Gerty cannot help but feel that there's something missing.
